sonnen GmbH has announced that it has pre-qualified to take part in the Italian national grid stabilization program Progetto Pilota Per Unità Virtuali Abilitate Miste (UVAM) with a decentralized network of intelligent battery storage systems.
The sonnenBatteries are integrated into a virtual power plant (VPP) built by EGO, a leading provider of congestion management solutions in Italy. These small-scale storage systems installed in private homes will now perform tasks which were previously handled by large-scale fossil fuel power stations. Participating sonnenBatterie owners enter into a special power supply agreement which the company says will guarantee them up to 1,500 kWh of free electricity per year.
“Including Italy, we have now launched a virtual power plant in five different countries within the past 18 months,” says Jean-Baptiste Cornefert, Managing Director of sonnen eServices. In addition to Germany, Italy and the UK, the storage specialist also has virtual power plants composed of decentralized batteries in the USA and Australia. It has already pre-qualified to offer balancing power solutions in all three European countries.
